Please indicate if you are interested in helping make costumes or need help. Please keep in mind that when designing your costume it should be easy to move in with no restrictions and cool. It gets very hot on the stage under the stage lights. Shorts are recommended rather than tights or pants.
Please remember that anything you post will be read by all invitees which include all the parents in both Mrs. Price's class and Mrs. Sherman's class, Mrs. Price, Mrs. Sherman, Mrs. Reed, and Mrs. Gutekunst. Essentially, this is a public forum.
For the "weed" characters, I was thinking green shorts/capris (wide legs of course because isn't that what rappers wear), and a tee shirt to match. Baseball cap and sunglasses. Any other suggestions?
Hi! It doesn't seem as though there are many bunnies. So maybe just white top/bottoms? I've also started the search for 'ears' as I thought that would be easy being so close to Easter- or I can always make them. Any other thoughts?
Hi All: This is very new for me but I decided to partake. Kathleen ---and others---any thoughts about our scarecrows. Creativity is not my best. All ideas will be appreciated. William has a great fishing hat that is perfect. He has mentioned big jeans with straw coming out of it. Thoughts??? I am traveling morning of play but would be glad to work on treat bags, baking for party, buying of cake etc. I got an adorable cake at sweet confections for Jacob's class and I would be glad to do the same. Also, Cosco makes an adorable cake with bright big flowers.
For Scarecrows: sounds like the kids should stay as cool as possible, so maybe cut-off overalls or jean shorts and short sleeved plaid shirts, hat (maybe straw hat?)... those are my initial thoughts.
I was looking through the oriental trading catelog and saw camoflage baseball hats etc. It made me think that the weeds should wear camouflage stuff. What do you think? Dr. Mazza, Mitchell told me he was going to paint his hair green for the cabbage. How fun! The cabbage costume has me stumped too. Maybe Tina Reiley will have some ideas... Tina is designing the flower that will fit over the head of each flower.
I have two cabbage projects in the works as I write..I have a start of a papier mache cabbage and trying a fabric one..if anyone has any suggestions, I would gladly take them. Mitchell is very interested in the colored hair..that could also be a fun idea for others..flowers, weeds, etc..they had all colors at the store I bought the blue for crazy hair day. I am heading their tomorrow if someone wants me to pick up other colors. I'll check the blog tomorrow morning
Miranda, can I borrow a pair of the bunny ears as well? Aidan is the other bunny. As for white costumes, I can do a white t-shirt and white sports jersey pants, white socks and sneakers. And the bunny ears. We can paint their nose pink and draw whiskers on their face if they let us. I don't know about Andrew but Aidan is concerned about looking "cool" in his costume.
For the weeds: I was just at Gap and they have everything camouflage. Socks, caps, shorts, sneakers. They did not have shirts, but I found a tee shirt to match. I will keep looking and if I see a camouflage shirt I'll get it, but I think the plan dark green will be fine. They are all in the boys department.
Jackie Stalter (Madelyn's mom) brought in some really neat costume ideas for carrots, and cabbage. She is willing to help anyone who needs some help. Just give her a call.
Mary B. I have the ears! I will send them home with Aidan on Friday. Do whatever you need to do to make them comfortable for him. We do not need them back.
Tyler is also a cabbage(Dr. Mazza, I saw that Mitchell is also) We have an old Halloween costume made from heavy duty foam material that I was going to cover with fabric or construction paper leaves for Tyler's costume. It is a pretty simple outfit, It seems to be just two circles sewn together with an opening in the top for the head and bottom for the legs. Hopefully this will work, I haven't started it yet, so I guess I should get to work! I think the hair color is a great idea, too.
I will check with Tina to see if she is constructing the flowers costumes or only making a pattern. It depends on whether she has the materials or not. I will let you know.
Mrs Quigley/ I bought extra green hair dye if you need it. For costume, I cut circles in green felt and am sewing leaves on it which sounds similar to your idea. Let em know about hair dye Pam Mazza
Andrew wanted a little white tail, like his bunny "Hoppidy". Any other white bunnies that would like a tail, I have some left over furry material that I just sewed a styrofoam ball inside & tacked to the back of Andrew's shorts with safety pins.
The costumes are looking great! Weeds all need to have a pair of sunglasses. We are looking for some parents to help us out right after school on Monday to hang up some of the flowers that the children made. Let us knowif you can help. Thanks!

HI,
I would love to work on scenery and set...but have to say costumes will not be a strong point for me..especially since Mitchell is a cabbage

If any one has any suggestions for the flowers or a carrot that would be great. Creativity and sewing are not my strengths!
children's place has green tops and shorts along with other colors. They might be good for the start of the plants, flowers, etc
To Tyler's mom (the other cabbage)
Hope you have suggestions for the cabbage outfit
I am stumped

Thanks for offering the bunny ears Miranda. We'll definitely borrow them!
Thanks,
Lisa
I found camo boys shorts on Gap.com and Gymboree has leaf print boys shorts. Either one would be good for the "weeds."

I spoke with Tyler at recess and he said his Mom was thinking about dying a cloth pumpkin costume green for the cabbage. What do you think?

Good news! Tina is making the flower costumes and we will need to reimburse her for the materials.
